The course covers basic firearm safety and hunting safety for youth and adults. You need to complete Hunter Safety if any of the following
is true and you wish to hunt:
- You were born after January 1, 1960.
- Wish to purchase any Michigan Hunting License and don't have a hunter safety certificate or previous hunting license.
- Don't have a hunter safety certificate and are anticipating an out-of-state hunting trip. Most states require hunters to carry their
certificate when hunting and need it to purchase a license. You need to obtain a certificate prior to your trip.
However Hunter Safety is NOT the following:
- IS NOT the equivalent of a specific gun safety course.
- DOES NOT meet the requirements for Concealed Weapons permits. See our Personal Protection
Training Program.
Parents are encouraged and welcome to attend with applicants. Parents are
required to attend if applicant is under 12 years of age.
